Although my race day performance wasn't what I had hoped for, the London Marathon was an absolutely incredible experience. This is a must-do race just for its sheer magnitude.
  • My wave crossed the start right at 9:45am.

  • At the start, I felt no issues, completely ready for the race.

  • People had noted that the first 5K is a net downhill and not to go out too fast. I really took this to heart and almost treated it like an easy warmup, keeping myself at around 7:40 min/mile pace.

  • I only consumed two gels, the first one was early at like mile 3 or 4.

  • I think the next must have been around mile 7? I’m not sure.

  • As the race progressed, I felt like that was actually a fairly comfortable pace and my instinct said not to kick it up a notch.

  • I ran mostly by feel and didn’t concern myself too much with the pace from here on out.

  • Around mile 23, I was feeling a bit overwhelmed and started to take a few quick walk breaks, which did help to “reset me” and get me back to running after a minute or two.

  • Just like with the Disney World marathon, I was just overall exhausted, and can’t really point to a specific issue.

  • I was feeling myself sweat more than usual. I didn't notice feeling too warm until the last half.

  • There was a point towards the end where I felt very thirsty, but my stomach wasn’t feeling stable enough to drink anything. I wasn’t totally sick in the stomach, just feeling like I was getting to that point.

  • I felt a little loopy towards the end
